Andticks at Number 16

In 2023, a few months into the Andticks journey, I found myself bringing one part of the business to life sooner than expected.

In mid-October, Andticks at Number Sixteen opened its doors. What began as a plan to focus on strategic support, consulting and partnerships quickly evolved into a nomadic retail and cultural concept, hosted in a heritage house in Parktown. Over six weekends, the space became a celebration of the unusual, the independent and the beautifully considered, set against one of Johannesburg’s most generous seasons.

The project brought together fashion, craft, art, music and food in a setting far removed from the familiar rhythms of shopping centres or conventional venues. There were live performances and vinyl sets, the Good Juice Wine Fair, craft workshops, children’s book readings and intimate dinners hosted by a remarkable group of chefs. At its heart, it was about creating a space for discovery and connection, and about showcasing the depth of local talent.

The experience was intense, joyful, exhausting and deeply instructive. With little lead time and more intuition than logic, I leapt before everything was fully formed. While it unfolded differently to how I initially imagined, it marked an important moment of clarity. It reinforced why I do this work, and how much can happen when trust, collaboration and curiosity are given room.

Andticks at Number Sixteen was made possible by a wide network of collaborators, makers and supporters, and it remains a defining early chapter in the evolving Andticks story.
